10 For Change is a voluntary program for Boulder businesses who wish to commit to reducing their energy use by at least 10%. Since the Boulder Creek Quality Inn & Suites joined the program we have already reduced our green emissions by 12% and our energy use by 12%. Beth Powell with 10 For Change was very excited to hear about our success and asked if we would be interested in hosting an event. We had just recently found out that we qualified for the Energy Star award and we thought this would be a perfect way to celebrate.

On Thursday the 26th of April we hosted a Ten for Change event which included around 30 attendees from local businesses. The timing was even more relevant being it was the week following Earth Day which was the 22nd and the weather cooperated beautifully.

Attendees were offered complimentary beer donated by Boulder Beer and The Golden Hotel (our sister property) catered in “green” food. The spread included green pasta, guacamole and green salsa, veggie crudities with green goddess dressing, brownies and cookies with green frosting and cucumber water and iced green tea.  The attendees were taken on a tour of all our many sustainability features including those in our public areas and guests rooms. We had a drawing in which 2 lucky winners were awarded an overnight stay at the Quality Inn and one at The Golden Hotel. 10 for Change brought along some nice door prizes also including CFL bulbs and aluminum reusable water bottles. But no one left empty handed as all the guests were given a parting gift of a Boulder Creek Quality Inn & Suites reusable shopping bag with a solar calculator,  green living guide, a reusable Quality Inn water bottle and a pen made from tree bark from The Golden Hotel.

 In the coming months we look forward to improving our green efforts by constantly monitoring our carbon footprint and developing a large green team “our entire workforce” to become knowledgeable and passionate about saving our planet and sharing these efforts with our guests and the general public.
